Braintree Golf Club was founded in 1891, with the original course situated at Chapel Farm alongside the Cressing Road.
The clubhouse was built in 1911 when a decision was also taken to engage the services of it's first Professional.
The Club was given notice to quit the Cressing Road course in 1920 and negotiations got underway for a move to Chapel Hill which, with it's natural contours, was developed in to one of the finest 9 hole courses in the county.
In 1966, the Club was again in need of a move, with the route for the Braintree by-pass scheduled to dissect the course. Work commenced on the Stisted course in early 1971 and was completed in the Spring of 1973.
Braintree Golf Club has since developed in to one of the leading Clubs in Essex. Consisting of more than 700 members, the Club has a full golfing calendar and a successful and varied social scene.
