Saturday and Sunday are the most popular playing days for 7 & 6 day members with several swindles being organised. During weekdays the 5 day members, roll up groups and our Seniors, make good use of the course and clubhouse.
Competitions: The men's section organise individual, pairs and team competitions throughout the year. Qualifying competitions are still held through the winter months where possible, as we are fortunate to play on full greens throughout the year.
Most competitions are played over both days of the weekend - there is a startsheet on a Sunday but Saturdays are not subject to start times, thereby allowing members to play when they prefer and with their normal playing partners.
There are a number of long-standing singles and pairs knockout competitions which run throughout the summer.
We enter the four major county team competitions, namely the Thornton Cup, Leslie Wood, Norman Plum and Over 55s, and have had considerable success in these competitions over the last decade as our Honours Board shows.
Tuesday is the main competition day for our ladies when most qualifying competitions are played, particularly in the summer months. Throughout the winter months, ladies have the opportunity to join in 9-hole organised friendly competitions. Alternate day Honours Board competitions are also available on Saturdays for ladies who can't play on Tuesdays, along with Saturday qualifiers for all 7 & 6 day ladies.
We have roll up groups on Thursday and Saturday mornings.
Our lady seniors (Lady Vets) participate in the main competitions, and meet informally most Fridays. The lady seniors organise many friendly matches with clubs in the county.
On the County scene, we put teams forward for the Bronze Shield, Silver Trophy, Harris Bowl, Munro Foursomes and some of our ladies enter the individual events/knockouts. We have had considerable success in these competitions over the last decade as our Honours Board shows (Julie Race is the Ladies Essex Senior Champion and Jenny Pease was the Ladies Essex Champion in 2007 and 2008).
Members can join the Seniors Section from the age of 55 and it is one of the most active in the Club. They hold their competitions every Monday morning and gather in the clubhouse at lunchtime for prize giving and a friendly raffle; the proceeds of which help fund their many team events and their annual Xmas dinner.
They hold a range of serious competitions in the summer months and a number of fun events throughout the winter. Variety and enjoyment is their main focus, but there is no loss of competitive edge.
They involve themselves actively in competitive team golf against other clubs throughout Essex and use a reciprocal arrangement to make playing at other clubs not just enjoyable, but also affordable.
Other week days are also popular for our Seniors, they gather regularly for their mid-week round on Wednesday morning and again on Friday.
Each year the Seniors Captain selects a charity for which funds are raised through raffles which are held after Senior Competitions and home matches against other clubs.
